The chart below shows the recycling rates of four different materials in a particular country from 1982 to 2010. We can see that paper and cardboard have been the most recycled materials over the years. Their recycling rates peaked in 1994 and were lowest in 1982 and 1990. After 1994, the recycling rates of paper and cardboard have been decreasing. Glass containers are the second most recycled material. Plastics have the lowest recycling rate but have increased slightly over the years and have only been recycled since 1990. Aluminum cans are the material with the biggest increase in recycling rates over the years and have been recycled since 1986.

Write about the following topic:

Learning English at school is often seen as more important than learning local languages. If these are not taught, many are at risk of dying out.

In your opinion, is it important for everyone to learn English? Should we try to ensure the survival of local languages and, if so, how?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
