Task 1

The graph below shows the proportion of four different materials that were recycled from 1982 to 2010 in a particular country.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Answer

The line graph illustrates the recycling share of paper and cardboard, glass containers, aluminum cans, and plastics in one nation over the period of 28 years from 1982.

Overall, all materials were more recycled. While paper and cardboard always accounted for the highest positions, the opposite pattern was true for plastics, which had the lowest recycling rate. Moreover, aluminum cans experienced the most significant growth.

In 1982, around 65% of paper and cardboard was reused, and this percentage was 15% more than the figure for glass containers. The proportion of paper and cardboard recycled fluctuated between 65% and 70% over the next 10 years before reaching the peak of 80% in 1994. It then decreased to exactly 70% in the final years. There was a steady decrease of 10% in the statistics regarding glass containers from 1982 to 1990, before increasing substantially to 60% in 2010.

Regarding the remaining materials, which were less processed. Aluminum cans and plastics were first reused in 1986 and 1990, respectively, with the former being approximately 4% and the latter being 3%. Additionally, more aluminum cans were recycled, as demonstrated by a significant growth to 45% from 1986 to 2010, whereas the recycling rate of plastics increased slightly to about 9% in the final year.

Answer

In this day and age, the necessity of learning English at school has become more crucial than learning the local language. However, there are many drawbacks when the mother tongue becomes unnecessary. In my opinion, it is vital to acquire the English language, and in this essay, I will propose some measures to maintain the importance of the local language in people’s lives.

Regarding the reason why I suppose that all individuals need to study English, the first one is that it is the global language used by over 100 countries in the world and has become the most popular means of communication in daily life. If people can not speak English at a medium level, they might struggle to interact with others in important circumstances such as an international meeting or going abroad. Another reason is that English plays a crucial role in studying and career development, which is because students can acquire a wealth of information about science, maths, and other disciplines, which is often written in English. Besides, residents with excellent English speaking ability can gain more opportunities to climb the career ladder in business, as many enterprises prioritize those with English qualifications.

Despite the mentioned benefits of English, we still need to ensure the survival of the mother tongue, which is important to maintain our cultural identity. In other words, local language is also a tool to express the beauty of their country’s culture, therefore, there are some solutions to enhance the awareness of people about the significance of their languages by exposing children early to local language and having a deep understanding of it. This will cultivate the interest of children in their languages from a young age.

In conclusion, English is becoming pivotal in human life in all respects, and it’s important to balance when learning English and local languages to avoid language loss.
